When the thought of genital warts enters the head, the first thing that comes to mind are raised warts that are clearly defined and identifiable. However not all warts need be elevated; there are some flat ones called flat genital warts too.
Though you may be apprehensive about these warts, your doctor will be able to immediately identify them. Though flat in appearance, when they are looked under a magnifying glass, these warts look like a cauliflower that may or may not be seen by the naked eye.
However at times, the doctor too may not be sure if you are suffering from warts or anything more dangerous. In such cases, they will carry out a biopsy by taking a sample from the affected area, after numbing it.
The doctor will then take a look at the sample using a microscope, and if required, send it off to the lab for analysis. This is to confirm that you are suffering from flat genital warts.
Not all the warts that you suffer from may be flat; some may be more raised in appearance. These warts may also appear one at a time, or in clusters. They may also appear small in size or grow quite large in size too. Whatever and however they appear, they have to be removed as they appear.
There are quite a few treatment options to choose from for treating these warts. Of the lot, doctors choose to use an acid to kill the wart, so that they fall off within a few days’ time. Some doctors may also choose to use a cream that helps the body fight off the virus while other doctors may freeze the warts or remove them using a laser. The choice of treatment is decided by the doctor, based on the extent and size of your genital warts.
